Shane and Anna's Wedding

Shane Caldwell...

Was a year and a half from submitting his PhD thesis in Physics at the University of Chicago. He was co-captaining Chicago Club, an ultimate frisbee club team that summer, and spent his free time split between team practice and choral practice.

Anna Smylie...

Was halfway through her MFA program in Graphic Design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She was playing on ELevate, a coed ultimate frisbee club team, and designing for the school and its student newspaper.

Before long...

Shane & Anna start chatting. Shane asked for Anna’s number and she politely informed him she had a boyfriend.

Several months later, Chicago Club and ELevate were playing games on adjacent fields at their final tournament that year. After applying yet another layer of sunscreen, (single) Anna recognized a familiar face on the sideline. It was that cute guy, Shane, donning a sweaty uniform and bucket hat. She struck up another conversation and the rest was dating, graduating from their programs and moving to the Bay Area together.

Ceremony

Augustana Lutheran Church— where Shane and Anna attended services before moving. Their former pastor, Rev. Elizabeth Palmer and current pastor, Rev. Chris Coon, will officiate their commitment to one another before God.

Reception

Art Institute of Chicago— The night will begin with a cocktail hour in the Grand Staircase and proceed through the Pritzker Gallery of Impressionism to the Chicago Stock Exchange Trading Room for dinner and dancing.
